Media Players
A media player is an application program that is installed in computers with the aim of playing multimedia files. Multimedia files present in the computer can be media content ranging from text, still images, motion pictures to animations. Media player software are commonly used to play a wide variety of media formats including audio and video files. These media players are available from the specific manufactures and also over the internet.
Some media players are specific in nature in that it can only play a certain type of media content for example an audio player is used for playing audio files and not video files. Others are flexible and can allow a number of media content to be played.
Different players are used for different operating systems. There are many media players that can be installed and used inside the windows operating system for example MediaMonkey, K-multimedia player, Adobe Media Player, MusikCube and Winamp. In relation to this, windows has an inbuilt media player- windows media player.
There are other media players that are platform independent and can be used in several operating systems. VLC media player is an example of such.
The media players are developed using different technologies. Some of these technologies are Podcast, Codec, Container Format and Internet Radio.
